Hallux valgus night splint to relieve nocturnal pain and limit the evolution of the deformity.

Indications for the EPITACT® hallux valgus splint
Is joint pain linked to your hallux valgus disrupting your sleep? The EPITACT® night splint will help you get a good night's sleep.
The hallux valgus night splint has a triple action:
it corrects the deformity and limits the evolution of hallux valgus ;
relieves nocturnal joint pain;
it eliminates conflicting pain on the "bunion" caused by pressure and friction against sheets, mattresses, etc. ;
Thermoformable, this splint enables progressive, personalized correction of your hallux valgus. As it adjusts perfectly to your morphology, it's very comfortable, so you don't have to worry about it while you sleep.

Testing the effectiveness of the hallux valgus night orthosis
After 1 month's use of the hallux valgus brace, more than 9 out of 10 people observed a realignment of their big toe. Their joint and friction pain was reduced by around 30%(1).
(1)Study conducted in July 2015 by Podyconcept among 15 participants with hallux valgus.

Instructions for use
Check that your toe is still laterally mobile (light to moderate stage).
Wash and thermoform the splint before 1st use.
Do not use while walking.
For the first 3 uses, we recommend wearing the splint for 2 hours only.
For subsequent uses, wear the splint overnight. Joint pain may be experienced during initial use. If they persist for more than 7 nights, consult your podiatrist.
After 1 month's use, and if no pain is felt, a 2nd thermoforming to increase correction can be performed. The desired correction will then be obtained without the spreader, but by pulling laterally on the big toe.
The device must be worn daily for optimum effectiveness.

How do I thermoform the hallux valgus night brace?
Thermoforming involves adapting the shape of the hallux valgus night brace reinforcement to your morphology. It can be repeated 4 or 5 times to increase the degree of correction. It can be done at home in just a few minutes.

Contraindications of the hallux valgus night splint
Do not use the splint on a skin lesion.
Do not use if the big toe is no longer laterally mobile.
For people with diabetes, arteritis, polyneuritis, neuropathy of the lower limbs or varicose ulcers: ask your doctor or chiropodist for advice, and monitor your foot during use.

How to care for your splint
The hallux valgus night splint can be machine-washed at 30°C or hand-washed (without rubbing) with soap and water. Leave to dry naturally. Do not expose to heat (> 50°C). Do not dry-clean. Discard and replace if gel cracks, fabric or seams deteriorate.

Can a hallux valgus brace be worn during the day?
Daytime use of the hallux valgus brace is not recommended, as its rigid reinforcement is not compatible with "standard" footwear and the need to move around. For this reason, EPITACT® has also developed a flexible hallux valgus orthosis, compatible with shoe-wearing and walking.

How do I choose the right size?
Using a tape measure, measure the circumference of your foot just before the "bunion". Then transfer the measurement to the size guide. If you hesitate between two sizes, choose the smaller one.

Can the brace cause pain?
In the case of hallux valgus, straightening the big toe may require a period of adaptation. We recommend wearing the splint gradually for the first few uses. In addition, the degree of correction should be gradual and moderate to avoid causing joint pain. If the thermoforming process has been carried out incorrectly, it can be repeated several times. If you feel the need, consult a podiatrist.
